Inspired by Curtis Holder’s beguiling and magical pieces on display at the National, violinist Fenella Humphreys was immediately reminded of the music of Adrian Sutton. Curtis’ unique style of multi-layered and flowing lines conjuring images of intense beauty and fizzing with life, is reminiscent of Adrian’s musical style, dancing lyrical and interplaying lines weaving together to create a sublime and distinctive musical identity, keeping the player and the listener on the edge of their seat from first note to last.

Adrian has been a long-time collaborator and maker with the NT, starting first with Coram Boy in 2005 and followed by War Horse, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, Angels in America, and many others.

Surrounded by Curtis’s art, this recital is a perfect synergy of images and music.

The programme includes chamber works for strings and we’re delighted to welcome Cara Berridge and Robin Ashwell to the stage with Fenella to bring Adrian’s music to life.

Interspersed with the music, Adrian will take to the stage for a brief chat with the performers about the music, his style, and his relationship with the National Theatre.
