He has acted, adapted and taught Shakespeare in a range of countries and contexts, from Cuba to Japan. His books include the Arden Performance Edition of Othello; Reviewing Shakespeare; Shakespeare on European Festival Stages; Shakespeare on the Global Stage and A Year of Shakespeare. He is the co-founder of the annual festival ‘Shakespeare in Yosemite’ in Yosemite National Park, California, and has adapted and dramaturged many of Shakespeare’s plays for a range of professional companies, including Macbeth for the National Theatre.
