Nimmo Ismail has participated in the Royal Court Writers Programme, Talawa Theatre Company’s TYPT, the Bush Theatre’s 2020–2021 Allotments Programme and is a member of the Orange Tree Writers Collective.

Training

Nimmo Ismail trained with the Young Vic as a Jerwood Assistant Director and Boris Karloff Trainee Assistant Director.

As a director, work includes: Word-Play for the Royal Court; Two Billion Beats for the Orange Tree; Glee & Me, Holding Space and The Christmas Star for the Royal Exchange, Manchester; a meal for Poleroid; Fragments as part of Five Plays and My England as part of Fresh Direction, both for the Young Vic; SNAP for Connect Now at the Old Vic; Liberation Square for Fifth Word; This Is the Time at the Bush; Two Palestinians Go Dogging at Sparkhaus; The Other Day
at Camden People’s Theatre; Television Guide, The Displaced/We Came In a Tiny Red Boat and I Actually Have a Son for Squint at Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

As an associate or assistant director, work includes: Oklahoma! and Wings at the Young Vic; Shedding a Skin at Soho Theatre; Our Town at Regent’s Park; A Very Very Very Dark Matter at the Bridge; The Prudes and Goats at the Royal Court; and The Phlebotomist at Hampstead.
