Emily McLaughlin

For the National:

Between 2015 and 2021 Emily McLaughlin was the first Head of New Work for the National Theatre. She established the New Work Department and commissioned and dramaturgically developed multiple ground-breaking and award-winning new plays, including Nine Night by Natasha Gordon, Death of England by Clint Dyer and Roy Williams, All of Us by Francesca Martinez, Romeo and Julie by Gary Owen, as well as The Father and the Assassin.

Prior to this, Emily McLaughlin was Education Officer then Artistic Associate at the Royal Court, working with three successive artistic directors across 12 years to discover, champion and nurture new generations of playwrights. Emily McLaughlin is co-editor of The Royal Court Theatre Inside Out, published by Oberon Books.
