Douglas Rintoul

For the National:

Douglas was awarded a bursary on the Regional Theatre Young Director Scheme, was invited onto the Royal National Theatre Studio Young Directors’ Programme, and undertook a Clore Leadership Short Course. 

Douglas is the Chief Executive/Artistic Director of the New Wolsey Theatre in Ipswich.  He was the Artistic Director of the Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch (QTH, 2015 – 2022), founder of the national touring theatre company Transport (2010 – 2017), a selector for the National Student Drama Festival (2011 – 2016), and an associate of Complicité (2004 – 2010).

Elegy received productions in Spain, Mexico and Australia and was translated into Spanish. Christmas Allsorts, Sharon ‘n’ Barry do ‘Romeo & Juliet’, Sparky the Elf, ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas, Love Letters – Offie nomination for Best New Musical (QTH).

Awards

Douglas won a National Theatre Playwright Foundation Award for his play Elegy and Queen’s Theatre Hornchurch won the London Theatre of the Year Stage Award during his tenure in 2020.
