Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation

NT Connections Festival

Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation

In March 2015, the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation awarded the National Theatre a grant over three years towards Connections, the National Theatre’s annual festival of new plays for youth theatres and schools. This funding will allow us to double our inclusion fund, enabling groups demonstrating a financial or geographical barrier to participate and prioritising those who have a lack of access to creative opportunities, high levels of deprivation or significant NEET members.

Each year NT Connections invites ten writers to write ten new plays specifically for 13-19-year-olds, and each year we support over 200 groups of young people stage these plays. Connections gives young people experience of professional theatre-making. Their experience mirrors that of a company producing a new play in any theatre in the country. They create marketing campaigns, design sets and costumes, operate lighting and sound boards and stage-manage their performances.

The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation supports the arts, culture and heritage for the public benefit. The Foundation’s active grant giving programme, founded in 2010, has now awarded grants of over £11m to more than 255 recipients. The grants have gone to supporting high quality training and personal development for young people, emerging and established artists and to further projects which make a visible positive impact on the quality of life of both individuals and local communities.
