Why support us

The National Theatre is for everyone – a place that inspires, moves, thrills and delights audiences in London, across the UK and internationally.

A gift in your will, no matter how large or small, will cost you nothing in your lifetime, but will ignite the creativity of the next generation of artists and theatre-makers and share the joy of theatre with young people and communities throughout the nation, for years to come.

How your gift helps

Gifts in wills allow the National Theatre to plan, with confidence, ground-breaking initiatives and programmes that enable us to fulfil our mission to share our work with the widest possible audience.

Follow the links below to read about some of the specific initiatives legacies have helped to realise:

How to make a gift

Unless a different wish is expressed, all legacy gifts to the National Theatre are directed into a dedicated legacy fund held by the National Theatre Foundation, which exists to provide support to all areas of the NT’s wide-ranging work. The National Theatre Foundation is administered by the Foundation’s Trustees and is Chaired by Mr Graham Barker.

The Royal National Theatre is a registered charity (no. 224223), which means that your legacy gift will be exempt from Inheritance Tax. If you decide to leave at least 10% of your estate to charity, the Inheritance Tax rate on the rest of your estate may reduce from 40% to 36%. We recommend that you seek advice from your financial or legal adviser.

Should you decide to make a gift to the National, you can choose to leave either a share of the residue of your estate or a fixed amount.
