Join the writer and director as they reflect on their production of When We Have Sufficiently Tortured Each Other. Chaired by Aleks Sierz, author of The Theatre of Martin Crimp.

Martin Crimp began writing for theatre in the 1980s, and his 1997 play, Attempts on Her Life, established his international reputation. The plays that followed, The Country, The City, Cruel and Tender, and In the Republic of Happiness, have been seen by audiences across the world. He has also written the text for two highly-acclaimed operas, Written on Skin, and Lessons in Love and Violence. To coincide with this production, two plays commissioned by Hamburg's Schauspielhaus, The rest will be familiar to you from cinema and Men asleep, both originally directed by Katie Mitchell, will be published for the first time in the UK by Faber and Faber.

Katie Mitchell’s recent work in theatre include Sleeping Men and 4:48 Psychosis at Deutsches Schauspielhaus, Hamburg; La Maladie de la Mort at Bouffes du Nord, Paris; Anatomy of a Suicide at the Royal Court; The Maids at Toneelgroep, Amsterdam; Shadows (Eurydice Speaks) at Schaubühne, Berlin; and Cleansed at the National Theatre. Opera includes Ariadne auf Naxos, Pelleas et Melisande and Alcina at Aix-en-Provence Festival; Lessons in Love and Violence and Lucia di Lammermore at the Royal Opera House; and The Way Back Home for ENO and the Young Vic.
