Nogcinile Yekani Nomaqobiso is part of the Ngqoko Cultural Group, which formed in 1980 and consists of six women, committed to the indigenous music, songs and traditions of the rural Xhosa communities. They are well known in South Africa, and are regularly invited to perform internationally.
Nogcinile Yekani Nomaqobiso's voice produces overtones/split-tone (umngqokolo). She also plays the Storostoro (mouth bow) and whistles (umrubhe ngomlozi), and is a teacher passing on her skills and knowledge to the next generation of Xhosa youth.
