Nottingham Playhouse has been one of the UK’s leading producing theatres since its foundation in 1948. It welcomes over 130,000 ticket buyers annually and an additional 170,000 visitors to participation events and to Anish Kapoor’s stunning Sky Mirror.

It creates productions large and small, from timeless classics and enthralling family shows to adventurous new commissions, often touring work nationally and internationally. Its production of The Kite Runner has had two West End transfers and UK tours. New Artistic Director Adam Penford, opened Wonderland by Nottingham writer Beth Steel, to great critical acclaim on 9 February 2018 and Holes by Louis Sachar on 5 April 2018. Most recently, Shebeen by Nottingham writer Mufaro Makubika won the Alfred Fagon award for 2017 and its world-premiere production took place at Nottingham Playhouse in June 2018.
