Creative Development: comedy and clowning with Spymonkey

Workshop dates:

Saturday 30 March, 10am – 5pm
Sunday 31 March, 10am – 5pm
John Lyons Education Studio, National Theatre Studio

This project is available to 16–21-year-olds and is free to take part in

What is the most ridiculous thing that you have always wanted to perform on stage? Taking this question as your starting point, this practical performance weekend will use clowning techniques, music and slapstick, to help you discover what makes you funny, hone your skills and practice making an audience belly laugh.

You don’t need any experience in comedic acting or clowning to take part, just a willingness to find pleasure in your own ridiculousness and laugh until your face hurts. At the heart of this weekend is the Spymonkey philosophy that the funniest thing about you is YOU!

This fun and practical project is led by Toby Park and Petra Massey from Spymonkey, a physical comedy company who have been making sublimely hilarious and deeply ridiculous theatre since 1998.

How to apply:

To apply, please complete this form by Wedesday 27 February. We will be asking everyone to attend a practical audition workshop on Monday 4 March, so we can meet you, play some games and find out more about who you are. Please let us know which times you are able to attend when you apply.

We would never want the cost of a project to prevent anyone from taking part. A limited number of travel bursaries are available. If you would like to apply for one, please indicate this on the form when you apply.
