Bristol Old Vic

Built in 1766 as a place where people from every part of Bristol could come together, Bristol Old Vic is the oldest continuously working theatre in the English speaking world. Our mission is to create pioneering 21st-century theatre in partnership with the people of our energetic city; inspired by the history and magical design of the most beautiful playhouse in the country. We are led by artists who see the world with distinctive clarity and whose ability to articulate what they see allows us to understand and engage with our world afresh, whether through our 350-strong Young Company, our many outreach projects or helping ascendant artists by nurturing the spark or seed of an idea into something fully-formed.

Bristol Old Vic offers creative opportunities to people of all ages from across every neighbourhood of our city. We understand the transformative power of theatre; to improve confidence, raise aspirations, to develop communication skills and self–expression, to broaden team skills, encourage reflective thought and nurture creativity. On completion of our major redevelopment project in autumn 2018, Bristol will finally have a welcoming, fully accessible building worthy of its creative spirit.
