About the Award
The National Theatre have announced the NT Women of Tomorrow Directors Award, as part of a new partnership with the CHANEL Fund for Women in the Arts and Culture.
The new Award will support a female director to bring their work to a wider audience; by providing them with an opportunity to stage their own production in a partner theatre.
For this year’s inaugural Award the partner theatre will be The Yard Theatre, recognising its commitment to artist development and producing bold new work.
The Award comprises of the following:
- A six month residency in the NT's New Work Department, facilitating other projects and gaining insight into the work of some of the UK’s leading theatre writers and directors
- An opportunity to direct a fully realised production produced by a partner venue with the capacity for risk and creative ambition
The chosen director will rehearse and present their production at The Yard Theatre in autumn 2020 for a three-week run and during the residency at the National Theatre, they will have a five-day workshop at the Studio to develop their initial ideas and will be provided with support on casting and dramaturgy.
For further information, applicants can read about the Award and apply here.
The Award is open to all female-identifying directors who have the right to work in the UK. Applications must be submitted before 9am on Tuesday 26 November 2019.
