The Threepenny Ring Cycle

Performed by Les Grooms

by Richard Wagner

'This is not a parody of the Ring, but a celebration - we were treated to a theatrical coup worthy of any production of the Ring.’
Total Theatre, 2003

Follow the smartly-suited bellboys into their magical grotto for a surprising take on Wagner’s monumental opera cycle, telling the complex story of Seigfried, Brünnhilde and the Valkyries, reimagined for brass band, percussion and three singers. Performed inside a tent at breakneck speed, Les Grooms reduce Wagner’s epic 16 hours of music to a dizzying 79 minutes. Spiced up with Yiddish folk, oriental scales and klezmer rhythms, discover a world of gold rings, evil dwarves, giants, gods, magic, dragons and a magnificent apocalyptic ending.

4 STARS "It enabled an audience that was up for a laugh to have a cracking evening of fun under the stars." View the full Music OMH review
