Alex returns to the West End

27 November 2008

Alex, the one-man show based on the cartoon strip from the Daily Telegraph, is to return to the West End tonight (November 27th) after previewing from November 25th.

The play, which features Cold Feet actor Robert Bathurst, is to be revived at the Leicester Square Theatre until December 20th.

It follows investment banker Alex Masterley, created as a comic strip by Charles Peattie and Russell Taylor and his antics as a business man at work in the city.

The production mixes live performance with animation and features numerous characters from the cartoon as 2-D projections including his sidekick Clive, long-suffering trophy wife Penny, boss Rupert and his grumpy client Mr Hardcastle.

Phelim McDermott is responsible for the directing the play and follows her work for the Improbable Theatre, which includes the award-winning Shockheaded Peter.

The production originally premiered at the Arts Theatre in October last year.

Bathurst's stage CV includes roles in Whipping It Up, alongside Richard Wilson, Three Sisters with Kristin Scott-Thomas and Hedda Gabler with Francesca Annis.
