Step Change was established to support the professional development of talented individuals in the early-mid stages of their career in the arts – both those in organisations and independent. It recognises that individuals from certain backgrounds are often overlooked and have limited opportunities to acquire knowledge or practical experience other than through their day jobs. Consequently people can become ‘stuck’ on a particular career path with no conceivable way of making their desired change.
The programme provides coaching, mentoring and training from industry professionals and requires participants to undertake a secondment to experience a different role, discipline or scale of organisation. Five cohorts of participants have now emerged with a broader understanding of the industry, specific work experience and the invaluable advice and guidance of more senior arts leaders. The programme will be re-launched in 2014 with new partner organisations from around the country.
