Video Recordings of NT productions

Image of link to Video section

The National Theatre has made video recordings of its productions since 1995. Until 2006 these recordings were made with a single camera recording a wide shot from the back of the auditorium. In 2006 we introduced a high quality digital three-camera system to the Lyttelton and Olivier auditoriums; we vary between using one and two cameras in the Cottesloe Theatre. A 'live-edit' is produced for every show and is available to view with a synchronous fixed wide shot recording. The resulting digital videos are available on-demand to researchers in the NT Archive via our new National Theatre Digital Archive (NTDA) system. The video collection is only available for viewing within the NT Archive; under no circumstances will recordings be copied or loaned.

Click on the links to the right of this page to view more information about the NTDA and for lists of NT recordings including commercial recordings and those made by the National Video Archive of Performance (these are also available in the NT Archive). A chronological list of NT recordings is available to download at the foot of this page.
