Synopsis:
This is an irresistibly funny and tender play about big dreams and small changes. Things aren't going to plan for one family in Withernsea, Yorkshire. Pieces are falling off Martin's milk float as quickly as he's losing customers and something's up with Kath's kitchen sink. Billy is pinning his hopes of a place at art college on a revealing portrait of Dolly Parton, whilst Sophie's dreams of becoming a ju-jitsu teacher might be disappearing down the plughole. Amid the dreaming, the dramas and the dirty dishes, something has to give. But will it be Kath or the kitchen sink?
This volume also includes the monologue Spacewang. This title comes from the talented young author of Me, As a Penguin (2006), Tom Wells.
'Comic, poignant and utterly gripping...Wells wrings more riches out of seemingly throwaway lines than a lot of writers manage in an entire play...Outstanding.' – Evening Standard
'In its own quiet and clever way, this is a classic comedy of moving out and moving on but also sentimentally acknowledging that there's no place like home... consistently funny, beautifully written...a small gem. –whatsonstage.com
'He writes with a mixture of acute observation, emotional empathy and a love of eccentricity, so the evening is full of humorous moments as well as sad and touching ones...both moving and funny...at the end you could hug them all. –The Stage
'Blessed with both tenderness and a beautiful sense of tentative hope...Hilarious and touching...One of the best new plays I have seen anywhere this year, and I cannot recommend it too highly.' –Telegraph
