Modern China: a place where the most cutting edge technology on earth is made by people from rural villages. Where hedge funds present proverbs from the ‘Little Red Book’. How do the young Chinese make sense of it all?

This epic new play was created by international political activist Anders Lustgarten, who carried out extensive interviews with young people in China, and young Chinese living in the UK.

The play shows young people in China who are at work, at school and in love, finding their place and dealing with the echoes of their past.

Anders Lustgarten

Anders read Chinese Studies at Oxford before heading to Berkeley in California to work towards a PhD. With his studying completed, Anders devised academic courses for prisoners in the UK and USA and taught drama inside prisons in both countries.

Anders turned to playwriting in 2007.  He has had attachments at Soho and the National Theatre and commissions from both and also the Bolton Octagon. Plays include: A Day At The Racists, The Punishment Stories, Black Jesus, The Insurgents, A Torture Comedy, Enduring Freedom.

He won the Catherine Johnson Best Play award in 2011 for Pearson.

Alongside his writing, Anders works as a political activist across the world, focusing on the actions of multinational corporations in developing countries.
