Finian's Rainbow in Broadway revival

Finian's Rainbow opens on the Broadway stage tonight (29 October), in the first major revival of the show.

The 1947 musical has been directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle.

The show begins an open-ended run at the St James theatre in New York, following previews from 8 October.

Described by the theatre as a mixture of romantic fantasy and social commentary, the show will star Tony award winners Jim Norton and Chuck Cooper.

Norton plays Finian McLonergan, an Irish dreamer who heads to the mythical state of Missitucky with his daughter, played by Kate Baldwin, in pursuit of wealth.

A series of complications await the pair in their new home, which give rise to what the St James theatre describe as "some of the most witty, charming and heartfelt songs ever written for the stage".

Cheyenne Jackson and Christopher Fitzgerald also feature in the show, which includes a score by EY Harburg and Burton Lane.
