The programme for The Black Album, on sale at £2.00 from the Cottesloe bookstall, the main Bookshop, and from ushers at performance times, contains Hanif Kureishi’s vibrant introduction to the play and the background to his writing the original book; and an article by writer and broadcaster Kenan Malik on the events leading up to the fatwa against Salman Rushdie and the Bradford book-burning. Evocative illustrations recall the late 1980s, plus Claudia Mayer’s costume drawings and Tallula Sheppard’s photographs of the company in rehearsal.
