Sister Act to reach the West End

14 November 2008

A musical version of the Hollywood blockbuster Sister Act is to be staged in the West End in the New Year.

Previewing from May 9th 2009, the production will premiere at the London Palladium on June 2nd and feature original cast member, Whoopi Goldberg as a co-producer.

The Oscar-winning actress played the role of Deloris Van Carter, a lounge singer who is given a new identity as a nun to provide her with protection after she witnesses a murder.

Goldberg said: "If you are fortunate enough to be a part of something wonderful, I feel it's important to pass the baton."

"The best way for me to be a part of this new incarnation of Sister Act is to make sure everyone knows it's happening," she added.

Stage Entertainment is responsible for bringing the screen hit to the theatre and is behind the transfer of Hairspray at the Shaftesbury Theatre.

The production of Sister Act will replace the revival of The Sound of Music currently running there and is initially booking until February 2010.
