La Cage Aux Folles transfers to the Playhouse Theatre

30 October 2008

Musical La Cage Aux Folles' transfer to the West End's Playhouse Theatre opens tonight (October 30th).

Directed by Terry Johnson, previews for the production at the new venue began on October 20th while it will run until January 10th 2009.

The musical, which enjoyed a sell-out run at the Menier Chocolate Factory, has been reconceived for the Playhouse with cabaret-style seating in front of the stalls available to audience members aged over 18.

It tells the story of nightclub owner Georges and his star performer and life partner Albin, who find their livelihood under threat when Georges' son becomes engaged to the daughter of a right-wing politician.

Douglas Hodge plays Albin in the role he performed in the production earlier in the year while Denis Lawson takes over from Philip Quast as Georges.

Lynne Page is responsible for the choreography with Jason Carr behind the musical supervision and orchestration.

Hodge has acted in a number of productions at the National Theatre including A Matter of Life and Death, Blinded by the Sun and King Lear.
