State of Emergency premieres at the Gate Theatre

State of Emergency by German playwright Falk Richter is to be premiered in the UK at the Gate Theatre, London on November 11th.

The play has been translated by David Tushingham and tells the story of a married couple whose utopian ideal turns into a prison.

Gate Theatre describes the production as an examination of "state control and self control and how the civic dream can turn into an Orwellian nightmare".

Jonathan Cullen, Geraldine Alexander and James Lamb make up the cast who are directed by Maria Aberg.

Mr Cullen's previous work includes performances at the National Theatre in Happy Now?, Market Boy and Albert Speer as well as Equus at the Gielgud theatre.

Previously, Ms Alexander featured in Pillars Of The Community at the National Theatre as well as making a number of appearances at Shakespeare's Globe theatre in The Tempest, Two Noble Kinsmen, Titus Andronicus and A Midsummer Night's Dream.

State of Emergency is designed by Naomi Dawson and features lighting by Neil Austin and sound by Carolyn Downing.
