Duet for One to open new season at the Almeida

16 October 2008

A revival of Duet for One is to open the 2009 season at the Almeida Theatre with Juliet Stevenson and Henry Goodman in the lead roles.

The play, which was written by Tom Kempinski and premiered in 1980, focuses on concert violinist Stephanie Abrahams as she is diagnosed as suffering from multiple sclerosis.

She is forced to contemplate a future without music through consultations with psychologist Dr Feldmann, played by Henry Goodman.

Julie Andrews and Max von Sydow featured in a Hollywood version of the film made in 1986.

Ms Stevenson won a Best Actress Olivier for Ariel Dorfman's Death and the Salesman while Mr Goodman has been awarded Oliviers for The Merchant of Venice and Assassins.

Other plays expected to feature in the Almeida Theatre programme for 2009 include When the Rain Stops Falling, Judgement Day, A Quiet Island, Rope and Measure for Measure.

Parlour Song by Jez Butterworth will premiere at the venue following the close of Duet for One in March.
