Ray Davies' Come Dancing extended

16 October 2008

Come Dancing, a musical written by ex-Kinks' frontman Ray Davies, is to continue running at the Theatre Royal Stratford East until November 8th.

Taking its name from a Kinks' hit from the 1980s, the production is set in and around Ilford Palais in the 1950s and the local dance hall on a Saturday night.

Mr Davies was responsible for writing all of the songs for the musical, which also features three Kinks' songs.

He also features in the production as a narrator alongside the likes of Delroy Atkinson and Alasdair Harvey.

Kerry Michael, artistic director of the east London venue and director of Come Dancing, said the run was extended to meet demand for bookings after the original finish date of October 25th.

"Our audiences have so far been outstanding, and it is wonderful how Come Dancing, an original British musical set in east London, has managed to capture the imagination of not only a local audience but also the wider national and international audience as well," she stated.

A new stage-adaptation of fairy tale Hansel and Gretel is to feature at the Theatre Royal Stratford East over the Christmas period.
