Rue Magique to premiere in London

7 October 2008

Rue Magique, a musical by Brett Kahr, is to make its world premiere at the King's Head Pub Theatre in Islington, London, on October 29th.

Originally conceived as a short musical piece, which was performed for the Prince of Wales in 1999, the play was developed by the author Lisa Forrell, who wrote the book and is directing the production.

The play follows the relationship between Desdemona, a south London prostitute, and her 13-year-old daughter Sugar.

It is set in a world which the theatre describes as existing "beneath the radar of police and social services, where people struggle to survive by any means possible".

Melanie LaBarrie plays the main role of Desdemona following her portrayal of the oldest woman in the world in the West End version of Mary Poppins.

The cast includes Nadia Di Mambro as Sugar and Terel Nugent as Rem as well as Gavin Ashbarry, Adam Bayjou and Julian Forsyth.

Cherry Docs is currently running at the theatre.
