Welcome to Ramallah opens this week

30 September 2008

Welcome to Ramallah, a new play written by Sonja Linden and Adah Kay opens this week at the Arcola theatre in London.

The production runs from September 26th until October 18th before transferring to the York Theatre Royal.

Sonja Linden's theatre company iceandfire is behind the production which portays the arrival of a Jewish woman at her sister's home in the occupied city of Ramallah.

An unexpected curfew leads to the sharing of family stories which are supposed to explore the "balance between duty and love".

Previous productions from iceandfire include I Have Before Me a Remarkable Document Given to Me by a Young Lady from Rwanda and Crocodile Seeking Refuge.

Ms Linden's critically acclaimed A Young Lady from Rwanda was the Metro and Timeout Critics’ Choice when it emerged in 2003 and helped launch iceandfire.

Adah Kay was a resident in Ramallah where she was a volunteer and worked for a number of charities and human rights organisations.
