Girl with a Pearl Earring opens this week

30 September 2008

A new stage adaptation of Girl with a Pearl Earring is to debut in the West End this week at the Theatre Royal Haymarket.

David Joss Buckley is directing the play, which is based on the novel by Tracy Chevalier and will feature Adrian Dunbar and Kimberley Nixon in the leading roles.

The production tells the tale of painter Johannes Vermeer, who hires the young girl Griet as a servant to help him around his home.

However, Griet becomes more than a servant and begins to study the art of painting before becoming the artist's muse.

Kimberly Nixon is making her West End debut in the role of Griet following a performance as Sophy Hutton in the BBC's adaptation of Elizabeth Gaskell's Cranford.

Adrian Dunbar has been BAFTA nominated for co–writing Hear My Song with Peter Chelson while featuring in Boeing Boeing and King Lear at Royal Court.

The West End showing of play follows a short summer preview at the Cambridge Arts Theatre.
