About
In our modern media-saturated world, many people's first thought when they hear the word ‘actor' will be of ‘stars' from film or TV. Yet the National's Director, Nick Hytner (who has directed several films, as well as many plays), points out that stage actors have to have a particularly impressive array of talents. They must captivate a live audience of hundreds of people, while often dealing with difficult but extremely beautiful texts. Actor Lesley Manville adds a range of physical and emotional skills to the list.
