Her Naked Skin

a new play by Rebecca Lenkiewicz

Shockingly this is the first new play by a woman ever to be staged in the Olivier Theatre. It's by Rebecca Lenkiewicz, and is set in the London of 1913 - a time when the fight for women to gain the vote was getting violent.

Thousands of women of all classes served time in Holloway Prison after the militant suffragette movement refused to let the establishment stand in their way. Lady Celia Cain who is trapped by a frustrating love-less marriage, finds friendship and solidarity in the face of in-humane force-feeding in prison. While smashing windows she meets a young seamstress, Eve Douglas, and their close relationship spirals into an erotic but dangerous chaos.

Lesley Manville plays Celia Cain in this provocative look at a time when emancipation was almost in sight.
