Amy Shuckburgh's portrait and rehearsal studies of Nobel Prize-winning playwright Harold Pinter are exhibited in the foyer of The National Theatre from 11 July 2007 for the run of Pinter's play The Hothouse at the Lyttelton Theatre.
Amy Shuckburgh's portrait of Harold Pinter was produced during a series of sittings in 2006 at Harold Pinter's home. It captures Pinter's humour and directness in a relaxed domestic setting, using lively and vivid colours in acrylic and pastel on wood.
The exhibition at the National Theatre also includes a series of preparatory sketches or rehearsal studies, which show Amy Shuckburgh's search for Harold Pinter's defining characteristics.
Amy Shuckburgh's portrait of Harold Pinter has been exhibited at Trafalgar Studios, London, during the run of Harold Pinter's play The Dumb Waiter and at 'Artist and Citizen: 50 Years of Performing Pinter', a conference held at Leeds University at which Harold Pinter received an honorary degree. The work has been reproduced in the programmes for The Dumb Waiter, the touring production of Old Times; Betrayal at the Donmar Warehouse; and The Hothouse at the National Theatre, London.
